Mindful Parenting: Yoga with kids

I started yoga more than 10 years ago just because it was trendy and everyone was talking about. But after I gave a birth to my son, yoga has became my lifestyle and part of my parenting. Yoga helped me so much with my depression and now it’s my favorite activity with my son.

Doing yoga with kids is not just fun. It reconnects you with our natural childhood senses. You will notice the wonderful ways your legs, feet and hands move even when falling. Sometimes we notice that we’re taking ourselves too seriously or laughing rather than judging when we fall out of a pose can help us let go of some the limitations we’ve created for ourselves. There are of course some benefits for kids too. Yoga enhances their flexibility, strength, coordination and body awareness. In addition, their concentration and sense of calmness and relaxation improves.

Yoga helps kids to:

  • Develop body awareness
  • Learn how to use their bodies in a healthy way
  • Manage stress through breathing, awareness, meditation and healthy movement
  • Build concentration
  • Increase their confidence and positive self-image
  • Feel part of a healthy, non-competitive group
  • Have an alternative to tuning out through constant attachment to electronic devices

We can create more magic, inspirations, happiness, love, joy and laughter both on and off the mat.

  1. Cute pictures. I agree that our asanas can help us not take ourselves so seriously, especially when we fall out of them. They teach us a lot about how to work with our bodies and our attitudes about our bodies, helping us get deeper into the flow of our sequence.
